Latest Ohio Statistics on Motorcycle Accidents

- Joseph Condeni

Motorcycle accidents continued to claim lives on Ohio roads this year. The latest State Highway Patrol statistics show a total of 665 fatalities from Ohio road accidents, of which 74 are from motorcycle crashes as of August 2015. This appears to be on par with the previous years’ total of 134 motorcycle accident deaths.

Common Causes of Motorcycle Accidents

In many of these motorcycle accidents, highway patrol officers report that speeding and distracted driving, due to cellphone calls and text messages, are significant factors. A spokesman for the Highway Patrol also added that motorists often do not pay special attention to motorcyclists whose chances of not being seen on the road are highest at dusk and dawn.

Injuries Arising from Motorcycle Crashes

While wearing a helmet can reduce a motorcyclist’s risk of suffering serious injuries in an accident, a crash can still lead to catastrophic injuries, including spinal cord injury, amputations and fractures in various parts of the body, and traumatic brain injury.

If you or a loved one is involved in a motorcycle accident as a result of another’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation.

Important Steps after a Motorcycle Accident

Seeking medical treatment after any accident is important. After getting checked and treated by medical professionals, it’s also a good idea to speak to a personal injury attorney about pursuing a claim for compensation against the persons responsible for your accident.

It is wise to contact an attorney experienced in motorcycle accidents as soon as possible and before evidence of what caused the accident is lost or destroyed. The attorneys at Condeni Law will gathering all evidence relating to your accident such as:

  • Pictures of the crash site and vehicles involved
  • Identification details of the other car or truck driver causing the collision
  • Insurance information — yours and the other party’s
  • Police report, photographs and witness statements
  • Names and contact details of witnesses

The other insurance company may try to contact you about your accident in an effort to get you to enter into a settlement for an amount that may be significantly less than what you deserve. It’s best to let your personal injury attorney deal with the insurance company on your behalf. Our firm will work very hard to obtain the maximum value of settlement to which you are legally entitled.  If a fair settlement cannot be reached, we are prepared to present your case in court.
